A small stud of quality standard ponies 39"-41" Marshwood/Stow/Wells bloodlines.
Bred for their excellent temperaments, good bone, conformation and movement.
Champlers Shetland Pony Stud was started in 1985. We had bought a small grey Shetland mare, called Daisy, as a riding pony for my daughter. We had felt sorry for the pony having seen it in a
muddy field with many different breeds of ponies with her. The mud was well over her knees and she stood there shivering with the cold. It transpired in the Spring that she was getting larger around
the girth and it wasn't long before she produced a foal. A shetland cross filly probably by one of those other equines in her field! My daughter did start to ride her but at soon as she got to the
bottom of the lane she would do a quick buck, whip round having thrown my daughter off and dash back to the Farm. We realised she wasn't going to be the best riding pony so we started looking for
another Shetland. We bought a two year old filly called Empressora of Eden Beau who was our foundation mare and dam of Champlers Ebony. Empressora which we called Emmy was
a lovely big black standard Shetland out of Wells Elenora by Surpass of Marshwood. "Emmy" as she was called was quite a character. If there was one thing she didn't enjoy and that was being shown. I would have to drag her around the ring but the moment she thought the class was over and she was going out she moved into over drive! My son, Andrew, was particularly fond of Emmy. Although not professionally broken he would saddle her up and ride her around the fields. Andrew wasn't particularly keen on style just speed and Emmy was just so good - didn't buck or put a foot wrong - just enjoyed the attention.
We purchased the stallion Wells Super Star and starting breeding and that was the beginning of our Stud. After Wells Super Star we bought a colt from Jack & Joan Stevenson called Hose Reality and this was the sire for Champlers Ebony.
Another mare Wells Perfecta was aquired from "old" Harry Sleigh at the Aberdeen sales. Perfecta
was a lovely mare and not only produced us with good stock but was also a great performer in the show ring.
